Best 5 Trainers For Flat Feet Under £50

1. More Mile R66 Mens Running Shoes

All you need to do is take a look at the sole to know that the More Mile R66 running shoes provide a lot of support and cushioning. Size doesn’t always translate into results, but with this shoe, we are happy to confirm it lives up to expectations. The black part of the sole is actually a raised outsole wall to provide extra stability to your foot and keep it from overpronating.

The slight curve at the tongue of the shoe also results in smooth steps that almost feel like you are gliding off the ground when in stride. A durable rubber outsole provides extra grip and protects the sole. An extra thick Phylon midsole provides impact protection to this crucial area of the foot.

For a more affordable shoe, the quality of the upper is surprisingly high. We found the moisture-wicking effect to be almost on par with that of much more expensive shoes. Also, it was pretty comfortable, even during long runs. There isn’t much fault to find with the design either. You can’t expect the same level as a Nike or Adidas, but it comes close for a shoe well below £50.

ProsCons
  • Comfortable and breathable upper
  • Superior midsole support
  • Extremely durable sole
  • It can be fairly stiff

Asics Patriot 7, Women’s Training Running Shoes

The Patriot 7 is an older version of this classic Asics support trainer. Currently, we are at the Patriot 9, but most of the upgrades have been in the style department. The Patriot 7 still provides fantastic benefits to those who need a trainer that can provide extra support for their flat feet when running or walking.

Asic’s unique Trusstic SystemⓇ is the standout feature. It’s comprised of a plastic bridge that runs through the sole underneath the bridge of your foot to add support and stability. Other features include the AHARⓇ outsole that provides an extra bounce in your step as well as resistance against abrasion. Additionally, this provides extra cushioning and reduces the overall weight of the shoe.

The synthetic upper mesh is meant to be breathable and light, which we certainly found to be true. The specific model we reviewed was for women, but there are also men’s versions. A final concern eased by this shoe is the fact that it’s not too thin, like some other products. You can also swap the sock lip for an orthopaedic insole if required.

ProsCons
  • Reliable product and model
  • Unique Trusstic SystemⓇ provides amazing support
  • Fits most foot shapes well
  • Older model
  • Not the most attractive shoe

Asics Men’s Patriot 8 Running Shoes

If you’re a flat-footed guy looking for a new pair of running shoes, you are in luck. The men’s Asics Patriot 8 shoes are already selling for under £50. This is just one generation behind the latest version of this stability trainer, the Patriot 9. As such, you can expect a slightly updated look and performance compared to the Patriot 7.

It makes use of AHARⓇ (Asics High Abrasion Resistant Rubber) outsole that improves the durability of the sole and gives your step some spring and shock absorption. It also makes use of the Trusstic SystemⓇ to provide most of the midsole support. The midsole consists of responsive EVA foam, and the shoe is made with a California slip lasting.

The best thing about this shoe is that on top of providing a lot of support for flat-footed runners, it’s just a great running shoe in general. It’s even fitted with reflective stripes to keep you safe from more than just a foot injury. You can choose from a number of colours to suit your taste.

ProsCons
  • Fantastic overall running shoe
  • Reflective stripes for nighttime visibility
  • Comprehensive midsole support
  • A slightly pricier shoe

Women’s Hi Tec Shadow Original

For years, Hi Tec has been one of the top suppliers of quality activewear for those not wanting to pay the inflated prices of other brands. This shoe is not meant for serious or long distance runners, but it’s perfect for casual joggers, those who use a treadmill and generally active people.

The Shadow Original running shoes are supremely comfortable and require almost no time to wear in. The inner material is quite comfortable and the outer is made from a combination of suede and mesh. They aren’t the most breathable or dry, but they aren’t meant for intense workouts. However, they do have adequate support for those with flat feet.

This Hi Tec shoe has a thick TPU heel, an EVA insole for underfoot cushioning and a dual-density IMEVA midsole for extra support in this vital area. The lip at the heel also goes up higher than usual for added stability. Whether you like the colourful design is completely up to personal taste, but we thought it was cool.

ProsCons
  • Budget-friendly option
  • Very comfortable for active individuals
  • Good amount of support
  • Not suitable for intense workouts

Puma Speed 500 Ignite

Interestingly, Puma numbers their shoes according to a “speed rating”. With a score of 500, the Speed 500 Ignite falls right in the middle. So, while not appropriate for serious sprinters, it offers a good balance between speed and comfort over a distance. Weighing in at 232 g, it’s also an extremely light shoe.

The different types of technology incorporated into this shoe are too many to list. The IGNITEⓇ Foam Midsole is the most important as it provides the bulk of support for those with flat feet. The NeutralCELLⓇ technology provides a cushy and springy impact. Both of these features are crucial for runners with flat feet. The upper AirMesh helps increases breathability and helps your feet stay cool.

A 6 mm heel-to-toe drop promotes healthy foot posture. However, not everyone will find it comfortable, especially at first. For those who like to jog outside, the sole comes with reflective areas on the heel, toe box and toe cap. This shoe is available in men’s and women’s sizes, though the men’s costs a bit more.

ProsCons
  • Great for runners
  • Overall fantastic sole for impact absorption and support
  • The heel-to-toe drop may feel uncomfortable to some
  • Expensive

Conclusion

We like the More Miles Stability shoe best, simply because it surprised us with the amount of support, stability and relief it offered relative to other products and at a bargain price. For us, it was quite comfortable even on long runs and eliminated most of the strain those flat feet usually experience.

Next up, we have the two Asics. Not much separates these two, as they are just one generation apart and are male/female versions of the same model. The patented Trusstic SystemⓇ present in both shoes gave the best support of all the products on this list. Both were great running shoes to boot.

Like the More Miles, the Hi Tec woman’s trainers have plenty of quality to offer for a low price. They are highly comfortable all-day shoes for those who live an active lifestyle, but they aren’t appropriate for intense workouts, so factor in your lifestyle and needs before you decide.

Technically, there’s nothing wrong with the Puma Speed 500s. Their only shortcoming is that they’re the most expensive shoes on this list, falling just within our £50 budget. Otherwise, they’re on par with both the Asics options.

Buyer’s Guide: Trainers for Flat Feet

best trainers for flat feet guide img - Best Trainers For Flat Feet Under £50

What are flat feet?

If you’re flat-footed, the arch of your foot rests almost parallel with your heel and the ball of your foot. In more serious cases, the entire sole of the foot may be in contact with the ground. For many, being flat-footed is a hereditary condition. In other cases, the condition develops over time (usually as a young adult).

You can spot if you have flat feet simply by standing and checking if there is any gap between your arch and the floor. If there is a large gap, you don’t have flat feet. If there is a small gap, you may have low arches and be at risk of developing flat feet. If there is no gap, you are flat-footed.

What are the symptoms?

Some people with flat feet never experience any symptoms. However, most will experience a certain degree of discomfort or pain in their feet, which can lead to leg, back, and even shoulder or neck problems later on in life. The effects can become pronounced if you are active.

When your foot lacks a proper arch, you overpronate (meaning your leg and foot roll inwards more than they should) when your foot strikes the ground. The rest of your lower body, from your ankles to your knees, must then absorb the shock from each footfall.

What to look for when buying trainers for flat feet?

No matter what you might read elsewhere, the most important component is comfort. If you force yourself into a stability shoe because of flat feet but it’s uncomfortable or causes you pain, it could just lead to more problems. If you’re concerned, there are a few unique factors you should consider.

Stability

A stability shoe may stabilise your ankle to stop it from overcompensating for your foot’s overpronation. This can be achieved with a solid, supportive sole, a robust upper (raised outsole like the More Miles) and ankle support. The lacing mechanism also plays a role and should allow you to tighten the shoe to a perfect fit.

Midsole Support

Support is vital for the entire sole. However, for those with flat feet, it’s even more critical that the midsole has extra support and cushioning against impact. Always keep an eye out for extra midsole support. An excellent example is the Trusstic SystemⓇ used by Asics. The heel is also a crucial area and should be slightly raised.
Space for Orthopaedic Insole
If your case is particularly bad, you’ll probably be using a special medical insole. Some support shoes allow you to remove the insole so that you can comfortably insert your own medical insole without affecting the fit.

Inner Sole

If you suffer because of your flat feet, comfort is even higher on your list of priorities than usual. A comfortable, adaptable and supportive insole is simply a must. EVA technology insoles are the industry benchmark, and most companies make use of them. As we mentioned, look for a shoe with a removable insole if you have a medical insole.
