The 5 Top Compression Socks for Runners & Athletes

1. Rymora Compression Socks

This is an excellently priced product and a really good value for money. It comes with all the bells and whistles that you hope to find in a compression sock. The material is a blend of 65% polyamide, 20% of elastane and 15% lycra, which results in a durable sock that won’t lose its grip.

The graduated compression provides extra support to the Achilles tendon and ankle while promoting blood flow to other areas. The non-slip cuff ensures that it doesn’t slip off, it’s padded at the ankle for extra protection and the toe is seamless for added comfort.

The Rymora sock varies between 15 and 20 mmHg of pressure. You can choose from 3 different sizes and 5 different colours. We like the design, but it might be a bit too much for some.

2. Mudgear Compression Socks

As you can guess from the name, these socks are geared towards those who take part in outdoor running. The material is even made to withstand the mud, dirt and debris that comes with intense competitions like Spartan Race or Tough Mudder.

It comes with a higher amount of compression than most socks to live up to its intended use. The sock even has a protective layer on the back for when you have to straddle ropes, etc.

With all these extra features, it’s no surprise that it comes in at a much higher price point than some of the other socks. However, it does come with the quality to back it up. It’s a pretty stylish sock, and you can pick either a grey colour scheme or black with red/green details.

3. Vitalsox Compression Socks VT1211

These compression socks boast a few impressive features. Vitalsox has incorporated its patented drystatⓇ material that’s made of a quick-drying polypropylene infused with silver. It sounds fancy, but it has a practical purpose: to stop the growth of fungus and bacteria.

It also features graduated compression that’s light at the toes and upper calf (12 mmHg) and strong at the ankle (18 mmHg). This distributes the bulk of the support where it’s needed while ensuring that the sock still sits comfortably everywhere else. There are plenty of sizing and colour options available, but be aware that the price varies depending on the option you choose.

If we have any complaint, it’s that the sleeve of the sock is slightly slim and those with bigger calves may find it slightly uncomfortable. However, the temperature regulation, moisture control and bacteria/odour elimination are on point.

4. Zensah Tech+ Compression Socks

Zensah Tech+ is another premium compression sock product. It’s made of moisture-wicking, thermal-regulating and super durable material. Just like the Vitalsox, it features gradual compression so that it’s only tight where it needs to provide support and comfortable everywhere else.

Its Ultra-zone ribbing along the ankle and arch of your foot is what provides the extra compression and stability in those crucial areas. It also features a seamless, anatomical toe section which is often an area of irritation.

The Zansah Tech+ sock comes in small, medium and large, and you can choose from a black and grey or pink and black design. The design is toned down and simple to suit all tastes. This sock is comfortable and provides great support, however, the price isn’t as comfortable as the fit.

5. Physix Gear Compression Socks

Plainly speaking, this is the most affordable compression sock that you’re likely to find. It’s a bargain considering the big brand name behind it and the quality of the sock itself. It’s not just us that think so; after almost 2000 reviews on Amazon, it still has a 5-star rating.

You can really feel the quality of the double stitching in this compression sock. It’s made of an anti-bacterial material, and in terms of comfort, it’s second to none. To top it all off, it’s one of the most stylish compression socks, in our opinion.

You can choose from a number of colour combinations of which most feature black as the main colour. There are only two sizing options available, which could result in fitting problems, but the overall feedback from users is resoundingly positive.

Conclusion

As you can see, even among these seemingly simple items, there is still a fair amount of variation. You should choose a sock that suits your pocket as well as any activity that you partake in.

If you take part in lots of outdoor races, trail runs or obstacle courses, the Mudgear is undoubtedly the sock for you. It’s unrivalled at powering through wet or dirty conditions, and it’s easy to clean afterwards. However, it will cost you.

The VitalSox compression socks are great for those who really break a sweat. Their drystatⓇ technology is the best at moisture-wicking to keep you as dry as possible during hard (or intense) workouts. They’re also good at keeping your feet odour free. The Zensah socks are very similar but cost more than the VitalSox.

The Physix socks are last but by no means least. They’re just a lower-end product for those on a budget. However, they’ve got high-end looks and comfort.

We liked the Rymora socks the most because despite being the second most affordable product on this list, it packs in the same features as products in a higher bracket. You shouldn’t have to compromise on quality for an acceptable price, and with the Rymora socks, you don’t have to.
